The Art of The Samurai

A samurai must firmly devote his heart to Bushido, the way of the warrior. Bushido means to die—an unwavering commitment to the way, even unto death. As 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 reminds us, "What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable." This duality of choice—life or death, success or failure, perseverance or surrender—defines the samurai’s path. To falter in devotion, to neglect the way, is to invite perilous consequences.
Negligence stems from carelessness, a failure to take proper care of what matters most. A perilous life, full of danger and risk, often follows such disregard. To live while intending to die, yet clinging to life out of fear, is cowardice. True honor lies in wholehearted service, as Jesus proclaimed in Matthew 22:37: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.”
A man of service is one who single-mindedly cherishes and serves his lord, without wavering. Such devotion produces a superb retainer, one who understands that strength comes not from self-reliance but from trust and submission to a higher authority. As Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
